Criminal Justice System & Stress

One of the hardest parts of the criminal justice system is the unknown and the stress associated with it. My job is to reduce that stress for you.

Criminal Justice System & Stress

As a criminal defense attorney in Colorado Springs, I deal with many different types of criminal charges. Over time, I was used to dealing with situations which would make most people extremely uncomfortable and stressed. One of the hardest parts of the criminal justice system is dealing with the unknown and the stress associated with it. A large part of my job is to help my clients handle the stress that is an inevitable part of the system.

Contact With Law Enforcement Stress

The stress usually begins with contact with law enforcement. The law enforcement is our community works hard to put a professional face forward, but that does not always mean that contact with them is pleasant. Often, there is a difference of opinion between the law officer and the accused about whether the accused violated the law. This difference of opinion can lead to frustration and feelings of anger on both sides. My advice is to save your energy and allow the officer to do his job. Differences of opinion are sorted out in Court, not on the side of the road. Politely accept your ticket or whatever the officer requires.

The Unknown & Stress

The stress usually continues with the unknown of what to do next. If the charges are serious enough, my advice is to contact a criminal defense lawyer. Whether or not the charges are serious enough depend on the risk involved. My advice to clients is that if the charges carry with it possible jail, then the offense is worthy of legal assistance. Although jail may not be imposed in your particular case, the offense is serious enough to engage the assistance of a Colorado Springs Criminal Defense lawyer.

A Competent Lawyer Reduces Your Stress

If a criminal defense lawyer is properly doing his or her job, then the amount of stress you are feeling should go down. A lawyer will point you in the right direction and explain what is going to happen next. I often have clients tell me that the reduction in the stress of the unknown is one of the best aspects of representation. The lawyer will handle the negotiations or trial preparation. He will get all of the reports and evidence against you to make sure that you have all of the evidence before preceding to trial or making a decision on how to proceed.

You’re Not Alone

Stress in criminal cases also comes because of the feeling of being alone against the system. A competent, aggressive, competent criminal defense attorney will help you to feel that someone is on your side. In a sense, it is you and your defense attorney against the world. You do not want to face the world alone. Especially world which can be very harsh and deal out justice swiftly. Your attorney will listen to you and take on your cause as his or her own.
